Thescelosaurus neglectus

Age: Late Cretaceous 65-77 mya
Location:Western Canada, Colorado, Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming 
Size: Length 12 feet, Height 3 feet at hips

 
T. neglectus

Description: This small plant-eater had a stout body with a long tail and short legs. It may have moved on all fours, odd for a Hypsilophodontid. The name is from the Greek theskelos, marvelous, and sauros, lizard .

Size: length, to 25 feet; height, 8 feet to top of frill; wieght , up to 5 tons 

This massive plant-eater was armed with 3 horns and a heavily armored frill to protect it's neck. The teeth were designed to shear coarse fibrous plants not to chew, crush or grind softer material. Only the largest of predators such as T.rex was equipped to sucessfully attack Triceratops and then only at considerable risk.

The name is from the Greek tri, three: keratos, horn ; and ops, face.
